View More Reviews 3) Fables by Arnold Lobel In summary, you have a fun story with recognizable characters, decent artwork and a great collection for a great price (I think 9-10 issues). His best work is not in this first volume, but seems to hit a better, more consistent style in later volumes. Mark Buckingham becomes the lead penciller for most of the series with other artists filling in on various issues. The artwork is about as good as it gets for a comic that is not affiliated with the Big 2 (Marvel and DC). Willingham has succesfully added depth, history and intrigue to timeless characters and it is quite fun to see what direction he takes characters like the Big Bad Wolf, Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, etc. Amazon Reviewer Super imaginative and a fun alternative to the standard super hero fare. I never want the books to end! It’s so fun seeing in-depth background on childhood fables. Played the game and really enjoyed it so I bought the comics and fell in love! They’re so entertaining. BOOK SUMMARY: When a savage creature known only as the Adversary conquered the fabled lands of legends and fairy tales, all of the infamous inhabitants of folklore were forced into exile.View More Reviews 2) Fables: The Deluxe Edition Book One by Bill Willingham, Mark Buckingham, et al. Amazon Reviewer I love the art in this book. At least one story features the animal, “an ass,” so I’ve got that conversation in my future. I strongly dislike it, but my son loves it. The language is stilted and slightly archaic (or, if you prefer to think of it this way, “traditional and true to early translations.”).

Each story is approximately 4 sentences long, but there are dozens of stories. I bought this for my 3-year-old for bedtime stories.
